Barely two days after an angry mob lynched two suspected robbers in Calabar, Cross River State, another suspected robber was killed on Thursday morning in the state capital.
The latest incident happened at Ikot Ansa Bus Stop by Foursquare Gospel Church, Murtala Mohammed Highway, Calabar. Luck ran out of a suspected robber while attempting to break into a shop. Two days earlier, two suspected robbers had been lynched at Parliamentary, by Ikot Efa junction in Calabar.
According to an eyewitness who pleaded for anonymity, “the suspect was caught in the morning while trying to carry out an illegal operation. A lot of breaking into
shops, houses, and stealing had been reported in the area for a while now, even before the #EndSARS protests kicked off in the state.”
The police have, however, launched a manhunt for those who killed the robbery suspect. The state Commissioner of Police, Abdulkadir Jimoh, disclosed this to newsmen in Calabar.
He described the incident as “unfortunate and sad. I will be calling a stakeholders’ meeting after #EndSARS debacle to put a stop to this barbaric act.
Meanwhile, the police have launched serious investigation and manhunt for the perpetrators,” he said.
Jimoh had warned against incessant cases of lynching of suspected robbers and kidnappers across the state after three suspected kidnappers were beheaded and burnt recently.
