Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, yesterday, expressed delight at the rescue of the over 300 students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, who were abducted by bandits recently.
Speaking in Abeokuta, he noted that the abduction of the students besides throwing the nation into a sad mood, created negative comments in international media and disservice to the Katsina State Government’s education policies.
He said words were not enough to express the relief and joy with which he received the news of the safe rescue of the over 300 students.
In a statement from the governor’s office, he said: “On behalf of my family, the government and people of Ogun State, I convey our joy, solidarity and goodwill to the government and people of Katsina State.”
Describing the experience as harrowing, Abiodun said everyone waited with bated breath while the incident lasted and affirmed that the rescue was a testament of President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Masari’s leadership and dedication.
He also extolled the professionalism and commitment of security agencies and collaboration of other stakeholders that led to the safe rescue of the students.
Governor Abiodun pointed out that the abduction offered Nigeria an opportunity to learn from the incident, which could inspire initiatives to prevent a reoccurrence, not only in Kastina State, but throughout the country.
Canvassing solidarity of the Ogun people to the government and people of Katsina State, Governor Abiodun expressed delight that the students have reunited with their families, which had ended the agony and grief engendered by the abduction.
