Deputy Vice Chancellor-Administration, Bayero University, Kano, Prof Haruna Wakili is dead.
Professor Wakili died in early hours of yesterday, at the National Hospital, Abuja, after a protracted illness. Bayero University has so far lost eight professors, besides senior academic and non-academic staff majority of whom died in the wake of the mysterious mass death in Kano.
Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Professor Idris Adamu Tanko, who confirmed the passage of Wakili to The Guardian, on telephone, disclosed that the renowned professor of history died 10 days after he returned from medical treatment in India, where he had spent five months.
The Jigawa-born university don served as Commissioner for Education in Jigawa State during the Sule Lamido’s second tenure. Before he assumed the office of the DVC, he was appointed, Director Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Research and Training (Mamvayya House), an institute owned by Bayero University, Kano. The deceased has been buried according to Islamic rites.
