The National Youth Service Corps has suspended bio-metric clearance and Community Development Service (CDS) meetings in order to curtail the spread of Corona virus among Corps Members, Afriupdate reports.
The Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim stated this in his office today March 20th, in Abuja.

According to him, the Scheme has taken adequate precautionary steps towards ensuring that all Corps Members are safe and equally put in place measures whereby Corps Members would do their monthly clearance seamlessly at their Local Government Offices without forming clusters.
‘We have suspended the bio-metric clearance and Community Development Services. We want to appeal to our Corps Members to be conscious of their health and avoid places with large number of people. The safety of our Corps Members is our priority”, the DG said.
Speaking further, General Ibrahim said as soon as the situation improves across the globe and in the country, the 2020 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Corps Members would be recalled to the camps to complete the remaining activities of the Orientation Course.
He urged the Corps Members to follow periodic briefing from the Federal Ministry of Health and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control including directives from NYSC Management which would be made available on its Social Media Platforms.

To date, more than 233 cases of the new coronavirus have been registered in sub-Saharan Africa and four people have died, making it the least-affected region in the world.
The vast majority of people recover from the new virus in a matter of weeks, but the outbreak has caused more than 5,000 deaths worldwide.
