Edo Governorship Election Results – One of the latest major updates in today’s (Saturday) Edo governorship election is that Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has triumphed in the polling unit of former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun.
Afriupdate understands that Obaseki polled 109 votes to defeat Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC who collected 40 votes at polling unit 02, ward 002, Oredo local government area of the South-South state.
Oyegun had refused to endorse Ize-Iyamu in the buildup to the election, asking the people to vote for the candidate of their choice.
“I stand with the people of Edo State and urge them to come out massively to exercise their democratic rights. They should vote for good governance, common decency, principled leadership, especially in the political arena and the protection of their democratic rights,” Oyegun had said in a statement.

Edo Governorship Election Results – Recall that Afriupdate had earlier reported that Obaseki defeated Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC at his polling unit in Oredo Ward 4, Unit 19 in Oredo Local Government Area. While some voting points have concluded vote-counting exercise, other polling units are still in the counting process.

In a related story, Policemen deployed to Edo for the ongoing Edo governorship election grumble over an alleged refusal of the authorities to pay their allowances.
It would be recalled that the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had on Monday disclosed that 31,000 police personnel were deployed to the state to ensure a peaceful election.
One of the policemen (name with-held) said; “I don’t even have money to go back to Lagos tomorrow. Imagine no provision for us to go back to our base”.
“I heard ₦50,000 has been approved for those in my rank but I am yet to receive the alert. Though some have received theirs,”.
Another one said, “We are currently risking our lives to ensure adequate security during this election but it’s sad that we don’t have anything in our bank accounts. Just few of us have been paid.”
According to reports, some of the policemen deployed to Edo State for the Edo election appealed to the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to intervene in the matter.
