The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa slumped at the third National Identity Day celebration at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Bawa was delivering a goodwill message and then suddenly stopped, staggered back to his seat, and laid down.
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Pantami, and other dignitaries at the event held him. He was later taken out of the hall.
Recall that the EFCC boss had on June 17 at the State House, Abuja discountenanced and shrugged the reported threats to his life, stating that the development can not deter him from carrying out his assignment.
Bawa spoke in Abuja when he appeared at a weekly ministerial briefing organised by the presidential media team.
“One one cannot die when his time has not come, no matter the sophistication of the orchestration. Just don’t cross the lines, as the EFCC will get you anytime, anywhere,” Bawa said.
He was responding to the reported alarm he raised that a certain ‘big-man’ had threatened to kill him.
According to him, threats have been made in the past and will continue, adding that “I’m not aware of any EFCC chairman that has not been threatened.”
Bawa said although he had mentioned the matter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, informally, he was set to follow up with an official complaint of the development at the Force headquarters for further action.
