Women interest group, Women Support Women (WSW), has called for more appointive positions for women in Enugu State to contribute to the development of the state.
They also urged the political parties contesting in the 2023 governorship election in the state to nominate female running mates as a way of maintaining the status of a woman as a deputy governor, as Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has done in the past seven years.
Addressing journalists in Enugu, at the weekend, the Coordinator of the group, Mrs. Onyinye Mamah, said that there had been male dominance in appointive positions in the state, stressing that for equity and fairness, more women should be encouraged to participate and contribute to the building of the state.
Her words: “We want Enugu to maintain the status of a woman as a deputy governor and we want more women in appointive positions.”
