• Ogun Gov’s Wife Donates To New Year Babies
• Rotary Club Honours First Baby
Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, yesterday, welcomed the First Baby of the Year, Latifat Subair, at the Randle Maternity and Children Hospital, Surulere, Lagos.
The Speaker also presented gifts to the first baby, as well as the second babies of the year, who were triplets born into the family of Okotie David, also at the same hospital.
Also, Ogun State Governor’s wife, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, also received the First Baby of the Year in the state.
She also paid hospital bills for two mothers and gave all mothers in the ward cash and baby items.
The first baby, Zakariya, male, weighing 3.3kg was delivered at about 12.17a.m. at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu.
Mrs. Abiodun also visited a baby boy, weighing 3.2kg delivered at about 1.35a.m. at the family health clinic, Abeokuta South Primary Health Centre, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta, to Mrs. Labake Akinwande.
Welcoming two other baby boys delivered between 7.12am and 7.20am to the families of Amosun and Towolawi respectively, at the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta, Mrs. Abiodun congratulated them, describing their babies as “special gifts from God.
On her entourage were wife, Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Mrs. Bolanle Oluomo; Ogun State Head of Service’s wife, Alhaja Nuratu Aigoro and APC women leader, Ogun Central, Alhaja Abisola Aliyu, among others.
Also, Rotary Club of Lagos Central, yesterday, honoured the first baby at Lagos Island Maternity Hospital. The baby, a male was delivered of at 12:10am to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Qudus Layembi.
The boy weighed 5kg. Baby clothes, baby cot, mosquito net, cash presentation were among the gifts given to the mother of the baby. MTN shares were also bought for the baby. The second and third babies were equally honoured.
President of the Club, Rotimi Okafor, said the first baby was the club’s flagship project, which began over 40 years ago.
Meanwhile, Gbajamiamila, who represents Surulere Federal Constituency 1, also commissioned a 40 KVA solar panel Inverter and 40 KVA generating set at the hospital. He commissioned Randle Avenue Street and visited the Heart of Gold Hospice in Surulere, Lagos.
The Speaker was accompanied by Desmond Elliot, member representing Surulere 1 in Lagos House of Assembly, Surulere Local Council Chairman, Bamidele Sulaimon Yusuf and others.
The Chief Medical Director of Lagos Island Maternity, Dr. Olufemi Omololu expressed gratitude to Rotary Club. He said: “It is a thing of joy and it is something we do every year. Rotary Club of Lagos Central usually come to celebrate with us in the last 40 years. We also pray it outlives us.”
Diligent members of staff of the hospital were also honoured with plaques and monetary rewards. In the junior category, Ologunde Folashade emerged the overall best, while Afolabi Oluwafunke Titilayo was the overall winner in the senior category.
