Emir of Anka, Zamfara State, Attahiru Ahmad, has urged the government of the state to allow residents to carry weapons for “self-defence”.
He stated this during a condolence visit to the Emir of Kaura-Namoda who had an unfortunate encounter with bandits the week prior.
He said that the government was the only one in the position to approve the bearing of arms, as “no single individual” stood above the government.
Ahmad added that the mode of mitigation employed by the state governor Bello Matawalle – peace and reconciliation with bandits – was not going to help the situation of insecurity in the state.
In his argument, the government cannot make peace with a group of people who are not
ready for peace and reconciliation.
He said, “Since the bandits refused to surrender, the government should allow everyone to carry weapons for self-defence.
“One cannot make peace with people who are not ready to embrace peace and reconciliation as initiated by the government.
“No single individual in this world is above the power of the government, unless the government does not want to act.”
