The Kano State House of Assembly has approved the N15b loan requested by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to fund free and compulsory education in the state.
Ganduje sent the request to the legislators on Monday to enable each of the 44 Council Areas of the state to access N340 million to fund the new education initiative.
Speaking at plenary yesterday, Speaker of the House, Abdulazeez Garba-Gafasa said the lawmakers adopted the motion and approved the request after the committee’s recommendation.
He had on Monday read the letter of request signed by the governor seeking the House approval to allow the local government areas to access the loan from a commercial bank. Garba-Gafasa had referred the letter to House Committee on Local Governments, headed by Deputy Majority Leader, Kabiru Hassan-Dashi, with a mandate to submit their recommendations within two days.
