The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has declared that his non-appearance at the Justice Ayo Salami panel probing the suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, was constitutional.
Magu had decried the action having been subpoenaed by the committee.
But yesterday, Malami through his Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Dr. Umar Gwandu, maintained that his appearance or otherwise as a witness in any investigation was a constitutional matter.
The aide said: “In establishing propriety or otherwise of the presence of the AGF whose responsibility is to hold constitutional order, one must root same within the constitutional provisions.”

“The terms and wordings of the invitation extended to the AGF by the Justice Ayo panel of inquiry run contrary to the constitutional provisions. The office of the AGF is by the provision of the constitution and by extant laws empowered to serve supervisory role. In the case of the EFCC, the AGF has been discharging the role effectively.”
Magu’s camp had raised the alarm that the accuser refused to confront him on the allegations preferred against him.
