Nigerian Twitter is reacting to the visit of the former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, to Bola Tinubu, the leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
A lot of those who have chimed in on the matter tagged Fayose’s move as an attempt to wriggle out of the alleged N6.9 billion fraud case he is currently facing at the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court.
Fayose, a member of the opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), visited Tinubu, who just returned to Nigeria after weeks of knee surgery in London, at his Ikoyi residence.
But Fayose said late on Tuesday that his visit to the APC boss was to wish him quick recovery as health issues “know no political party and that in this part of the world, people seldom celebrate people when they are alive instead, preferring to sign condolence registers.”
A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Monday, further adjourned Fayose’s court trial to December 1 to December 3.
Fayose and a firm, Spotless Investment Limited, were arraigned on October 22, 2018 for alleged criminal breach of trust, theft and money laundering and were re-arraigned before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke on July 2, 2019 with EFCC’s petition.
While some Nigerians believe it was an attempt to get a waiver of the matter, others considered it to be an attempt for the member of the opposition party to join the ruling party.
However, his trial scheduled for January 22 was stalled as counsel to the EFCC, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), told the court that his star witness contracted coronavirus.
Responding to Fayose’s Tweet yesterday, a Twitter user Dumbili Christian, accused the former governor of seeking a soft landing for his trial.
“Someone just reminded me that your case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is coming up December 1. It is good you begin to build bridges, see your brother governors and friends to discuss on how to move Nigeria forward. I was told APC has changed.
Other Nigerians share different sentiments on the issues.
Lol, e get court case next month

Behind the visit could be to make the calls that will stop EFCC from sending you to jail over the corruption case. However, make the move ,it’s necessary.

Your excellency, it is selective amnesia when you signed Buhari’s condolence register while he was still alive and recuperating in a London hospital. The new sudden twist of event can now be said, to be inversely proportional to your personality back then.
