Nigerians on Twitter have bashed Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State over his N10 million gift to singer Burna Boy during the latter’s recent homecoming visit.
While receiving the Grammy Award-winning artist, Wike said that the state was proud of him and said he had their full support in whatever he intended to do.
The governor gave Burna the sum of N10 million and a piece of land, sparking outrage on social media as Nigerians feel the monetary gift was unnecessary, given some workers in the state being owed salaries.
One Twitter user wrote, “When they say Buhari is not working, this is what they mean. They miss the government of share the money which is why @burnaboy could not politely ask Wike to use that money to pay the five-year unpaid salaries of teachers in demonstration schools in Rivers State.”
