The Job Creation and Empowerment Initiative of the Social Investment Programme of the Nigerian Government on Wednesday disagreed with the popular notion among N-Power beneficiaries that Sadiya Umar Farouq, the minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development is ‘a disaster’,
Afriupdate understands that about 500,000 beneficiaries of the famed scheme throughout the federation are yet to get paid their April Stipend 14 days into new month May 2020.

This online news medium observed that a significant number of beneficiaries (graduate and non-graduates) groan that they were not even paid March stipend.
Additionally, independent monitors of the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIPs) as well, tender grievances related to non-payment of their entitlement.
Since Farouq’s assumption of office in October 2019, Afriupdate learnt that protests relating to delayed stipend payments have become a norm.
The situation has caused many beneficiaries to regularly take to social media to lash out at Umar Farouq.
Reacting to the criticism, N-Power, via its official Twitter handle, says stipends payment “is a process”, assuring the Nigerian youths that their ₦30,000 April Stipend “will be paid”.
“We disagree ma’am. She takes issues around N-Power very seriously. There is a process. Your stipends will be paid” said Npower.

The Federal Government’s N-Power scheme was introduced in 2016 by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration “to imbibe the entrepreneurship culture in the Nigerian youth aged between 18 and 35 — both graduates and non-graduates”.
This online news understands that the Buhari administration intends to expand the scheme from approximately 500,000 to accommodate one million beneficiaries in the next phase. This, to make it the largest post-tertiary job scheme in Africa.
The N-Power (Nigeria) program provides young Nigerians with job training and education, as well as a monthly stipend of 30,000 Nigerian Naira (USD $83.33).
