Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly on Tuesday began the process of impeaching Agboola Ajayi as the deputy governor.
The members of the Assembly are currently deliberating in the Assembly on the allegation of gross misconduct against Ajayi.
Security personnel from the Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps are present at the assembly complex to maintain law and order.
The impeachment process may not be unconnected to his decision to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he has indicated interest to contest the governorship election governor against Oluwarotimi Akeredolu who is seeking a second term in office.
Akeredolu had sacked all the aides attached to Ajayi’s office. His security details were withdrawn until Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police (IGP), intervened to restore them.
