Umar Muda, a member of the Nigerian House of Representatives, has presented a measure to outlaw cross-dressing.
The measure, which seeks to outlaw cross-dressing with the exception of individuals who do it for fun, was read on the House floor on Tuesday, April 5.
Cross-dressers will be condemned to 6 months in prison if the proposed law is passed.
The bill states, “A person who engages in cross-dressing is guilty of an offence and liable to a six-month imprisonment or a fine of five hundred thousand naira.”
The bill aims to alter the same-sex marriage (prohibition) act of 2013 by adding cross-dressing to the list of offenses.
Recall that same-sex couples and LGBT people are sentenced to 14 years in prison.
