A group in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has canvassed a northern presidential candidate for the 2023 election.
The group, Face of Waziri-Nigeria, also urged the national leader of PDP to be strategic and tactical about repositioning the party for unity ahead of the coming general elections.
In an interaction with The Guardian, the group’s Executive Director, Mr. Bukky Adeojo, said it was important for PDP to put its house in order ahead of 2023, as it cannot afford to be in the opposition for another four years.
Adeojo said there is a need to cure the malignant virus of division and disharmony bedeviling PDP, as it is the party appears to be the only hope Nigerians are looking up to save the current situation.
According to the group: “The time is now for PDP all over Nigeria and in the diaspora to close ranks and do the needful. It is also for the leadership of PDP to ensure the next national chairman comes from the southern geopolitical zone, especially Southwest, which had been denied the post for too long.”
The group suggested that the zoning arrangements for the emergence of presidential candidature should be rested now, saying, what is urgently required is for the party to present a northern presidential candidate with a pedigree and clout to salvage the country from the sorry state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has led it.
He reiterated that the party needs to field a candidate with the capability to tackle insecurity, unemployment, poverty and other worrisome conditions that plaques Nigeria.
