Two years after relocating to Kaduna State, Tomato Jos Farming and Processing Limited has held a groundbreaking ceremony for its tomato processing facility.
The processing facility will be situated on 500 hectares of land leased from the Kaduna State Government, with a potential tomato cultivation area of 400 hectares.
The company said in a statement on Monday that it chose Kaduna because it is “investor-friendly and productive destination.”
“The company is now on a mission to significantly contribute to Nigeria’s food sufficiency, job creation and local capacity development with a $5 million investment in a tomato processing facility, which at scale will produce 10% of the tomato paste consumed in Nigeria under the Tomato Jos brand,” the company said.
Established in 2014, Tomato Jos has focused solely on primary production of tomatoes, soya, and maize.
The company is also training a large network of smallholder farmers to grow high-quality produce for the company under a mutually beneficial system and to guarantee enough raw material (tomatoes) to support an investment in a tomato processing facility.
