Amaka Ekwo, the former Press Secretary to Biafra political activist, Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed annoyance with Igbo elders, under the aegis of Conference of Igbo Elders for Peace and Development, for condemning Nnamdi Kanu’s newly-created security outfit – Eastern Security Network (ESN).
Recall Afriupdate News had reported that Igbo elders criticised the ESN, describing it as illegal and asking the governors in the South-East region of Nigeria to immediately move against the action by the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The elders also called on the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo not only to denounce Kanu’s action but advise people of the region against falling prey to the 53-year-old’s “illegal activities”.
In the statement on Thursday signed by Dr. Festus Edochie, National President, and Barrister (Mrs) Esther Amadi, National Secretary of the group, the elders said their attention to the activities of Kanu was drawn to a trending video of “some misguided youths armed with prohibited firearms and dangerous weapons”.
“We condemn this group and its activities in its entirety and call on all South-East governors and well-meaning Ndigbo to come out and condemn this act of criminality being sponsored by a self-appointed leader of a proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” a part of the Conference of Igbo Elders for Peace and Development’s statement read.
But reacting to the news on Friday, Ekwo said IPOB does not need their blessing.

The group Ekwo campaigns for, IPOB, Afriupdate understands, say they want rich investment and fair resource distribution in the Biafran region.
They say they are fighting for the interest of ethnic groups within the former territory of Biafra.
