• Police place N500,000 bounty on serial killer suspect, Shodipe
As Yoruba traditionalists all over the world celebrated the World Isese Day yesterday, there were calls for the government of Oyo State to set aside August 20 every year as public holiday to mark the festival.
At the Olubadan’s palace where they converged to celebrate with the king and his chiefs, the Aare Isese of Oyo State, Chief Omikemi Egbelade, said the last administration disappointed the traditionalists by refusing to declare holiday for the World Isese Day celebration despite that the then House of Assembly had ratified the declaration.
Egbelade, however, said the present administration would not disappoint them as the governor promised that he would declare holiday for the World Isese Day celebration.
Also, the Araba Ifalere Osegbemi, who is the Araba of Ibadan and Chairman of all Arabas in the state, has urged the government to urgently review the state’s education policy to allow the use of Yoruba language to teach in all public schools.
Osegbemi attributed loss of moral and human values to the use of foreign language to teach in schools, conduct financial transactions and communicate government policies and activities.
In another development, Oyo State Police Command, yesterday, announced a N500,000 reward for anybody who is able to provide useful information that could lead to the re-arrest of the serial killer suspect in Ibadan, Sunday Shodipe.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, in a statement, implored members of the public to co-operate with the police by volunteering useful information that can help to re-arrest Shodipe.
