Access Bank Sacks Workers – Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, has attacked Access Bank Nigeria for sacking hundreds of their loyal staff amid coronavirus pandemic crisis.
Kayode took to his verified Twitter handle on Sunday to express sadness over the action taken by the Nigerian commercial bank, Access Bank despite the challenges that Nigerians are facing as a result of the COVID-19 Outbreak in the country.
The tweet read;
“You gave 1 Billion Naira to the FG to fight Covid 19 & the next day you sacked hundreds of your loyal staff. You betrayed your workers & turned your back on them when they needed you most because you were more interested in ur profits &appeasing Buhari. @myaccessbank SHAME ON U!”.

Access Bank Sacks Workers – Similarly, a former Nigerian federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani also criticised the bank’s mass retrenchment of staff.
As seen below, Senator Sani pleaded with the Federal Government to return Access Bank’s one billion naira Covid-19 donation so as to enable them pay their workers.

The bank had announced plans to sack its workers as a result of the negative impact of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Afriupdate learnt that many of the bank’s staff received their sack letters via email over the weekend with shock and grief.
A pregnant cashier at the Ketu/Ikorodu branch of Access Bank affected by the bank’s mass retrenchment of staff, reportedly collapsed on Saturday after hearing of her dismissal.
According to the report, the 3-months pregnant cashier identified as Taiwo allegedly collapsed on Saturday after she was handed her sack letter as she was said to have been one of the staff affected by the bank’s mass retrenchment of staff.

Recall that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Saturday 2 May 2020, confirmed 220 new cases of the novel coronavirus pandemic bringing the country’s total infections to 2,388.
The coronavirus outbreak first hit some of the world’s largest economies. After originating in China, Italy and Spain were particularly hard hit. The U.S. now leads the world in the number of people who have contracted COVID-19 and those who have died from the disease.
