Demands justice and equity
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has said that the South East geo-political zone is ready to produce the president of Nigeria in the 2023 general elections.
Uzodimma, according to a statement, yesterday, by his Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Eze Ugochukwu, stressed that it was within the purview of political parties to field and present candidates with required leadership capacity to rule Nigeria if elected.
He said: “Every political party is rooting for candidates with capacity to win elections.
“In the South East, we are ready to produce the President of Nigeria.
“There is a national sympathy for the South East to produce the President. What will make it work is for the two leading political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), to pick candidates from the South East geopolitical zone.”
The governor urged the two dominant parties to field their presidential candidates from the South East. His words: “Let the PDP and APC produce Southeasterners as their presidential candidates. With this, we would have centralised this power-sharing in a manner that it becomes all-inclusive, and where justice and equity would have been seen to be done.”
On the best governor award given by the management of The Sun Newspapers during the 19th awards, held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, at the weekend, Uzodimma, said he was not surprised by the award based on the achievements he has recorded in little above two years in office, adding that he was, however, unaware that he was variously monitored to be given an award.
He said: “That I was given an award did not come as a surprise. When I came in to govern Imo, I had my programmes and vision. I had no room for prevarication, so I went straight to my action plan to recover the state. Many are aware that by 2019, Imo was completely lost.”
