According to authorities, a passenger train collided with a stopped freight train in central Croatia, resulting in at least three fatalities and 11 injuries.
According to a statement from the interior ministry, the accident happened at 9:30 pm Friday (1930 GMT) close to the central town of Novska, about 100 kilometers (62 miles) southeast of Zagreb.
Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic went to the scene and told reporters that “current information” indicated that three persons had died and 11 others had been hospitalized.
None of the wounds posed a serious risk to life. It was not yet known what caused the crash.
The injured included foreign nationals, the prime minister added, without offering any other information.
Eight foreign nationals were among the injured, a Red Cross official revealed to the government-run HINA news agency, adding that they were probably migrants.
A hospital in the nearby town of Nova Gradiska reported that a five-person Iranian family had been hospitalised.
