Donations of vaccines and medical supplies from Asian, European and Gulf countries are pouring in to help COVID-hit Tunisia fight the pandemic.
The North African country has now received more than four million COVID-19 vaccine doses, largely donated, to help it counter the virus.
China and the United Arab Emirates have each supplied 500,000 doses, while neighbouring Algeria gave 250,000.
On Thursday and Friday, Austria, Malta, Luxembourg and the United States also sent vaccines and medical supplies to Tunis to bolster its response to the pandemic.
Other countries that have sent donations include Egypt, Libya, Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Kuwait and Spain.
“The Presidency thanks these friendly countries that have taken the initiative to contribute to the noble solidarity tide with Tunisia in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic to reflect the strong relations it has in Tunisia, and commends the high national sense of the Tunisian community Outside and about her important role in the national effort in this difficult health situation,” a statement from the Tunisian presidency said on Thursday.
By Friday, the North African country had recorded 582,638 COVID-19 infections with 19,336 deaths.
