The number of COVID-19 infections globally has surpassed the 60 million mark, according to data from the Johns Hopkins University.
The tally put the total number of confirmed cases at 60,037,735 by Wednesday afternoon, with 1,413,325 deaths.
The United States remains the hardest-hit country, having registered 12,642,245 infections and 260,591 deaths. It accounts for 21.06 percent of the world’s caseload and 18.44 percent of the total death toll.
A total of 11 countries – the U.S. included – have recorded more than 1 million confirmed cases.
In terms of fatalities, only four countries globally, including the U.S., have reported more than 100,000 COVID-19 related deaths.
The JHU data puts the total number of successful recoveries at 38,442,797.
