Recall that the World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, on Wednesday warned countries that politicizing the global coronavirus crisis could lead to more deaths after U.S. President Donald Trump criticized WHO and threatened to cut off funding for the international public health organization.
In response to the criticism at a news conference in Geneva, Tedros urged countries to avoid politicizing the pandemic “if you don’t want to have more body bags.”

“Now is the time for unity, for the international community to work together in solidarity to stop this virus and its shattering consequences,” Tedros added.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has slammed the head of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom, who called for unity and global solidarity after Trump accused the U.N. agency of being “China-centric” and threatened to suspend funding.
According to The Guardian, Donald Trump blamed the World Health Organization for failures in the initial response to the coronavirus pandemic, even threatening to cut its funding, but most health experts say it has performed well with limited resources.
Accusing the WHO of giving bad advice, being “China-centric” and even withholding information, Trump claimed to have stopped US funding in a press briefing on Tuesday, only to claim a few minutes later that he was just considering it, pending a review of its performance.

Report says US contributions to the WHO in 2019 exceeded US$400 million, almost double the second-largest country donor, according to US figures. The WHO website shows the United States as its top donor, contributing nearly 15 per cent of the budget.
