The NFT frenzy was the biggest talking point this year as many well-known brands and celebrities turned to NFT for advertising and auctions. The newest to get into the game is the United Nations, but their focus is on the United Nations adopting the NFT to highlight the climate crisis rather than just using it for a promotional event.
UN launches NFT to raise awareness of the climate crisis
The United Nations has announced a climate initiative called DigitalArt4 Climate that will convert the winners’ artworks into NFTs. The UN exhibited the results of its climate art initiative at the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland. The UN Habitat team has teamed up with Unique Network, IAAI GLOCHA and exquisite workers to create its NFT climate initiative.
“We are pleased to be able to show that the properties of distributed ledger technology and open data can be used to support stronger actors of change in defining climate protection measures. Unique Network is very proud to work with these important initiatives by the United Nations, the global authority on models of challenge and justice, for a just transition. We believe the future of human expression lies in the NFT, and we strive to show the world how to unite our various communities in the fight to save our planet.
United Nations Adopts NFT – Rapid Growth NFT Industry
Non-fungible tokens, also known as NFTs, were first created in early 2012-2013 primarily on the Bitcoin blockchain, where people tokenize real assets using decentralized technology.
However, it wasn’t until 2017 that NFTs became very popular when fan tokens and major sports leagues started using them to allow more fan interaction. .
2021 is proving to be a disruptive time for the NFT ecosystem as it becomes hugely popular with digital artists, brands, celebrities, and even government agencies. Some of the original NFT collections have become new collections and have collected millions of JPEG images.
While the focus of the United Nations’ adoption of NFT is not on advertising or investment, it also shows that the NFT market is attracting unprecedented attention in history as more companies gain a foothold.
