Global COVID-19 cases have on Sunday surpassed the 120 million mark, with 120,148,640 people having contracted coronavirus.
96,674,388 people have however recovered from the disease, with 2,661,323 unfortunately losing their lives to coronavirus.
The latest statistics by the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) show Africa’s cases are at 4,017,016.
More than 300 million doses of the coronavirus vaccines have been administered, in more than 100 countries worldwide.
However, there are vast differences in the pace of progress in different parts of the world. Some countries have secured and delivered doses to a large proportion of their population, but many more are still waiting for their first shipments to arrive.
This is according to Dr. Nick Guldemond, a Senior researcher Leiden University Medical Center and Professor at I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University.
President of the African Development Bank Group Akinwumi A. Adesina on Sunday said, “Africa needs access to Covid-19 vaccines, in sufficient quantities, quickly and at affordable prices.”
