Barcelona have once again been linked to Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Senegalese defender is known for his experience, goals, and aerial dominance, but what else could he bring to Barca’s defense right now?
Leadership
On most occasions when Barcelona have played without Gerard Pique, the team seems to lack leadership at the back.
It’s no coincidence that Barcelona have won seven of the last seven games Pique has played in.
Koulibaly has been carrying Napoli for seven years now and his leadership quality is there for all to see.
The Blaugrana need a player who can command that rearguard. They only have it in Pique, but the Spaniard is often unavailable.
Power
Since the departure of Carles Puyol, Barcelona are yet to see the emergence of a power-packed center-half. No disrespect.
Koulibaly is huge, imposing, and intimidating and can’t be pushed over in the Barca rearguard.
The Napoli deputy skipper covers more than 4km per match and wins 75% of his tackles. These are qualities we have in Pique but sadly his fitness is a major doubt given his age.
A combination of Koulibaly and Araujo would send fear into the heart of any striker in La Liga.
