The Gunners have reportedly transfer-listed Mesut Ozil. The Sun believe that there are three reasons why Arsenal no longer want to keep the midfielder.
- Ozil is underperforming
Since the German was reinstated back in the squad earlier this season, he has failed to positively impact the team’s performance. With only 2 assists in 11 games this term, the 31-year-old has clearly lost his much-lauded finesse and is no longer at the Arsenal level.
Freeing up the wage bill
Mesut is the top earner at the Emirates. He pockets £350,000 per week which are clearly undeserved given his depressing displays. Offloading Ozil would surely balance the club’s books and save some money for future transfers.
- Uyghur comments
Although Arsenal have distanced themselves from Ozil’s recent awareness-raising post about the oppression faced by the Uyghur people in China, the midfielder’s actions have caused unwanted attention to the club. More than that, the Gunners are likely to suffer financial losses in China as the result of Mesut’s statements.
In October, several MLS clubs were reportedly interested in the midfielder. Arsenal were said to be ready to pay a portion of the playmaker’s wages so he leaves on loan.
While Mikel Arteta’s plans for Ozil are not known, we at Tribuna.com experimented with trying to fit him into the Spaniard’s preferred 4-3-3 formation.
