Abraham, Werner and Giroud have helped the Blues a lot this campaign but they could do better.
Michael Owen recently said that the Blues can’t hope to win the Premier League with their current strike force as none of them are amongst the best in the world at their position.
Here, we take a look at the numbers posted by our 3 strikers this campaign:
PS – Game-winning goals are defined as either an outright winner (for example, the only goal in 1-0 win), or the goal that gave the team the lead in an eventual victory (the 2nd goal in a 2-1 win or the 3rd goal in a 5-2 win with the game tied at 2-2 before the goal).
Tammy Abraham
16 starts (28 appearances overall)
12 goals
6 assists
80 mins per G/A
3 game-winning goals
Timo Werner
26 starts (31 appearances overall)
9 goals
9 assists
126 mins per G/A
1 game-winning goal
Olivier Giroud
9 starts (20 appearances overall)
9 goals
0 assists
93 mins per G/A
From these stats, we can see that Abraham has been the most impactful striker at Chelsea this season. However, it is worth mentioning that Werner has earned 7 penalties for the Blues this season – an underrated part of his game is winning spot-kicks due to his pace and trickery in the final third.
Of course, the German can definitely do better as he netted more than 30 goals for Leipzig last season. Reportedly, the Blues are interested in signing Erling Haaland to strengthen our strike force in the summer.
