Barcelona reportedly have slapped a €100m price tag on Frenkie de Jong.
If the move happened right now, the Catalans would get just €33m from the sale. However, as Javier Tebas has explained, selling assets would help the club come back to the 1-1 rule and receive all the money from a transfer sale.
Let’s imagine Barca have now got €100m to spend. Here are the transfer targets they could seal for this money.
1. Bernardo Silva
The Portuguese midfielder alone would cost Barcelona around €100m. He has 3 years left on his current deal with Manchester City, so the Citizens would not let him go for cheap.
By selling De Jong, the Catalans could basically sign the equivalent replacement for the Dutchman.
2. Lewandowski + Raphinha
If Bayern Munich agree to sell the Pole this summer, Barca would have to pay about €45m for the 33-year-old.
Leeds United’s asking price for Raphinha is a bit bigger, around €55m – but his signing shouldn’t be a problem if Frenkie is sold.
3. Lewandowski + Koulibaly + Di Maria + Azpilicueta + Alonso
Barcelona could simply improve the squad depth by landing several players after selling De Jong.
Kalidou Koulibaly would cost Blaugrana €35m while the other three players would have a total transfer value of around €20m.
4. Some other players
€100m is quite a lot even for a big club like us. If Barca don’t sign Lewandowski, they could go for another striker with this money, strengthening other positions in the process.
