AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli has insisted that he remains optimistic about retaining the services of Manchester United target Hakan Calhanoglu.
The 26-year-old playmaker has played a key part in the Rossoneri’s unbeaten start to Serie A, contributing one goal and seven assists from his 14 games.
However, the Turkish star has just six months remaining on his deal, a factor which has led to the Red Devils being strongly linked with his signature.
In spite of Calhanoglu being able to hold discussions with foreign clubs in January, Stefano has talked up the chances of keeping his player at San Siro.
Speaking to DAZN, the Italian tactician said: “Calha is fantastic, he is intelligent, he can move well, he knows how to attack and he knows how to connect the game. He sacrifices himself.
“I want him at this level, he is a top player. I don’t think there are problems. Calha is with us and with the club. I’m sure that his will is to stay, there is a negotiation.
“The club, technical area, the player and I want the same thing, he has reached important levels and can still grow. He’s a player to bet on.”
Elsewhere, Ecuadorian sensation Moises Caicedo is allegedly keen to join Manchester United in the January transfer market.
The 19-year-old midfielder has been linked with a transfer to the Red Devils since bursting onto the scene with Independiente del Valle, where Moises boasts six goals and two assists in all competitions this campaign.
He is tied down to Independiente until 2024, but club senior figure Santiago Morales recently admitted that the ace is likely to leave after a proposal from a European side.
Now, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Caicedo would love to make a move to Manchester United, and it is now up to the Old Trafford outfit to get a deal over the line.
