Mateu Alemany was playing mind games while trying to find out Ansu Fati’s career plans back in 2021.
“Well, you wanna stay here or what?” Barca’s sporting director suddenly asked the youngster right in the locker room.
“Where?” Ansu asked in reply, shocked.
*seconds of awkward silence*
“Of course, man… ” Ansu finally responded, laughing.
“Look into my eyes, yes or no?” Alemany continued.
Ansu: “Yes, of course, I am a Cule.”
Alemany: “We’re clear on that, right?”
Ansu: “Yeah… about staying here? You never know, but… ”
Alemany: “No, you never know, no.”
Ansu: “If it were up to me, yeah.”
Alemany: “Well, if it were up to me, you’d stay, okay?”
Then Alemany tapped Ansu on the shoulder and the two laughed a bit.
This was seemingly quite a difficult talk for Ansu who did not expect to hear this kind of question – especially in the lockers ahead of the new kit presentation.
