Osimhen’s transfer, according to the report, has been discussed within the Arsenal hierarchy who have been watching him for several months and they will continue to do so even as the 2023/24 season progresses.
The Premier League club has two strikers in Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus who have not been cleanical in front of goal. Hence, they are keen to land a marquee signing next summer with that player suggested to be Osimhen.
Meanwhile, Osimhen on Saturday said he is still in talks for a contract extension, and as for now, he is still a Napoli player but everyone will see what will happen.
Osimhen has been linked with leaving the Partenopei this summer despite a price tag of about €200m even as most Saudi Professional League clubs approached Napoli for their star striker.
“There was a lot of speculation which is true,” admitted Osimhen. “The president is the boss. We are still negotiating over a new contract, we will see at the end of the transfer window.
“For now, I am a Napoli player which is the most important thing. I will give my heart and soul to this team as I have always done in the past. We will see what happens.”
Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda started negotiations with Napoli a few months ago but the two parties are yet to reach a final agreement. The striker’s contract at the Stadio Maradona runs out in June 2025.
On Saturday, he netted his 61st career goal for Napoli after opening the 2023-24 Serie A season with a brace to help his club come from behind to beat Frosinone 3-1.
The Super Eagles striker who bagged 31 goals and five assists in 39 appearances in all competitions for Napoli in the 2022-23 campaign was replaced by Giovanni Simeone on 81 minutes.
