Jorge Mendes is trying to find a new team for his client Nuno Espirito Santo and held negotiations with the London giants when the Spanish manager was under serious pressure. Wolves coach Nuno has seen his reputation soar after guiding his side from the Championship to the UEL but is keen for a new challenge.
Nuno has instructed his agent Jorge Mendes to find him a new club, despite extending his deal with Wolverhampton in September until 2023. With the Gunners languishing in the PL, Nuno held negotiations with the club’s hierarchy about a possible switch. But a recent upturn in results saw those negotiations shut down.
Espirito Santo would prefer to stay in the PL in his next job and wants to work for a side that is in Europe. While he is content to continue with Wolves, for the time being, Jorge Mendes believes the time to land him a top job is now given his success in the Midlands.
Espirito Santo was recently in contention to replace Jose Mourinho as Man United coach before they appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. While his preference is to stay in the PL, a come back to Spain could be on the cards. He spent over a year with Valencia before resigning after a terrible start to the 2015/16 La Liga campaign.
The Portuguese manager is keen to stay in England’s top-flight, and Jorgen Mendes was in negotiations with Arsenal over a possible switch. However, Arteta’s recent resurgence and upturn in results saw those negotiations scuppered. La Liga would also be an option after working with Valencia in the 2014-15 season.
