Arsenal has reached an agreement with London rivals Chelsea to acquire the services of Germany international Kai Havertz in exchange for the sum of £65 million.
It is believed that the two clubs have reached a preliminary agreement that will enable the player to discuss personal matters and undergo a medical examination.
Havertz, who is 24 years old, would become Arsenal’s first signing of the summer window in the event that terms could be agreed upon.
Havertz is expected to become the first of two key additions at the Emirates Stadium in rapid succession for the Gunners, who are also attempting to bring Declan Rice away from West Ham United.
Arsenal has already had two offers for the England midfielder rejected by the Hammers, the most recent of which was reported to be worth roughly £90 million with add-ons. However, the Gunners are set to return with a third offer, with the Hammers maintaining their demand for £100 million.
However, it appears that the signing of Havertz, who has played 36 times for Germany and scored 13 goals, will be completed very soon.
Havertz moved to Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020 for a then-record fee of £72 million and went on to score 32 goals in 139 games for the Blues. One of those goals was the game-winning goal that Chelsea needed to beat Manchester City in order to win the Champions League in 2021.
Havertz was Chelsea’s joint-top scorer with Raheem Sterling despite only managing nine goals in all competitions in the most recent season. This came after Havertz had scored 14 goals in the previous season for Chelsea.
Havertz is the latest player to be shown the door at Stamford Bridge. Havertz follows in the footsteps of N’Golo Kante, who recently completed a transfer to Saudi Arabian champions Al Ittihad. The move comes as new manager Mauricio Pochettino tries to reduce the size of his overstuffed roster.
After spent close to 600 million pounds on players since the beginning of last season, Chelsea will need to sell some of them or risk violating the criteria governing Financial Fair Play.
It has been claimed that Chelsea players Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Hakim Ziyech are all in negotiations with Saudi Pro League teams Al Ahli, Al Hilal, and Al Nassr, respectively. Mendy plays goalie for Chelsea, and Koulibaly and Ziyech also play defense for Chelsea.
The Blues have also reached an agreement with Manchester City for a transfer fee of £30 million to acquire Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who is 29 years old.
