Barcelona are looking to pounce on Chelsea failing to extend contracts of Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen on time.
The Catalans will try to sign both defenders on pre-contract agreements soon, Diario Sport claim. Both players’ current deals with the Blues expire at the end of this season.
Azpilicueta’s contract with Barca is ‘basically agreed’. He will sign a three-year agreement with Xavi’s side.
Things are moving a bit slower with Christensen. The Dane has several offers on the table, including Barcelona’s, and is taking some time to make a final decision.
However, it is understood that he would prefer joining the Catalans to other options.
Note that The Athletic, an extremely reliable source when it comes to English transfer news, recently reported that neither Christensen nor Azpilicueta have signed pre-contract deals yet.
The Athletic added that Chelsea are positive they could extend the defenders’ stays.
