On Thursday, Barcelona formally told Frenkie de Jong that he has to leave the club, Mundo Deportivo’s Fernando Polo reports.
The Catalans also said that they prefer he joins Manchester United. Barca already have an agreement with the Red Devils over his departure. The move would be worth €70m fixed plus add-ons that could reach €80m.
Besides, Frenkie’s exit would help the club with their financial fair play. It would free up €30-35m in wages, allowing the clubs to register several new players.
Xavi, on his part, likes De Jong. However, he also understands the club’s financial situation and is ready to accept his exit. The coach wants Barca to sign Bernardo Silva as a replacement.
