Man United’s pursuit of Frenkie de Jong has hit yet another obstacle, this time of Barcelona’s making.
The Dutchman agreed to defer some wage payments due to Barcelona’s financial struggles. Overall, it’s estimated that the Catalans owe their player around ₤17million.
Now, reporter Jacque Talbot claims that Barcelona are only willing to pay ₤3m of those deferred payments and have asked De Jong to forgo the remaining sum. It’s not quite clear what De Jong thinks about such an offer.
The player’s initial priority was to stay at the club. However, he was reportedly told that the only way for him to do that was to ‘drastically’ cut his wage – so it looks like De Jong is set to lose some of his money regardless of the outcome of the talks.
