Quique Setien will be allowed to have a squad revamp in the summer and has asked Barcelona to sign one of his former players.
Barcelona manager Quique Setien will make his managerial debut for his new employers versus Granada at the Camp Nou on Sunday evening. The 61 year old will look to get as many points possible in La Liga this season while also looking to add more silverware to the side by trying to win the domestic trophies as well as the Champions League.
The Catalans will have a major revamp in the summer and along with a right back and forward, they may also end up signing a midfielder. With Sergio Busquets ageing, Frenkie de Jong may step into the impeded role and Arthur Melo along with a potential new signing who is most likely going to complete a trio of young midfielders.
Diario GOL has reported that Barca’s new boss has decided to pursue a move for his former colleague and Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos in the summer. Ceballos is currently on loan at Arsenal and is enjoying a productive spell in England, also indicating some months back that he doesn’t mind permanently moving there if he is going to be guaranteed playing time.
Ceballos is not expected to be a part of Zinedine Zidane’s plans for at least another season and more so given that Federico Valverde has emerged as a talent this time out. Real Madrid are interested in signing an attacking midfielder and Donny van de Beek has been touted to arrive, signifying an almost certain end to the Spaniard’s Madrid career.
With Luka Modric and Toni Kroos still doing well and Zidane having some good backup options as well, it is difficult to see Dani Ceballos convincing the Frenchman into playing him more often even if he continues to do well at Arsenal. That being said, Real Madrid will certainly not less him to the Blaugrana.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta seems to have mixed thoughts about Dani Ceballos, but he may end up snapping up on the young midfielder in the summer by looking at his potential. At best, the Spain international would cost 40 million euros for the Gunners but a move to the Camp Nou directly from the Bernabeu seems to be a prospect off the books.
