As reported by Moi Llorens and confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona midfielder Gavi has received an official new contract offer from the club as talks over a renewal are set to pick up speed.
The 17-year-old prodigy enjoyed a stunning breakthrough season with the Blaugrana in 2021/22, finishing the campaign as a crucial first-team player in Xavi Hernandez’s setup.
Gavi made 46 appearances for the Catalan giants, scoring two goals and registering six assists in the process. He has also become a regular in the Spanish national team and has been impressing heavily on the international stages.
Gavi’s future though has been dragged into speculations as his current contract with Barcelona stands to expire in 2023.
Despite protracted negotiations, an agreement is yet to be arrived at, and president Joan Laporta recently expressed his displeasure at the player’s agent for not going ahead with the extension.
Laporta’s outburst did not go down well with the midfielder’s camp, who have been waiting on a new formal proposal from Barcelona.
However, now, as confirmed by the two aforementioned journalists, Gavi has received an official contract offer from the club. Romano claims that negotiations will now enter the key stages after positive feelings in the last meeting as the two parties look to close the deal.
Gavi’s situation has put Liverpool on high alert, who are willing to trigger his release clause which stands at just €50 million. But the Spanish international has always maintained that he wishes to continue at Barcelona.
With the club now tabling a fresh official proposal, they will look to put the entire contract negotiation episode to bed at the earliest and secure the future of one of the most prodigious young talents to have come through the ranks at La Masia in recent years.
