Barcelona are willing to sell full-back Nélson Semedo this summer, with a move to the Premier League on the cards.
The 26-year-old was a key part to the Blaugrana’s defence last year, missing just six league games throughout the campaign. However, as the club look to rebuild and improve ahead of the new season, he could be on his way out.
According to ESPN, Barcelona are in talks with an unnamed Premier League club for Semedo. The deal could be completed by the end of the week, as Barça look eager to move the Portuguese defender on for the upcoming season.
They do not state who the interested club is, though Manchester City were previously interested in signing Semedo. Barcelona insist they will only deal with serious offers in the coming days ahead of the summer transfer window deadline of 5th October, although their financial situation leaves some room for them to be toyed with.
Mundo Deportivo claim that Wolves are the suitors in question, who could sign him for €40m. However, Nuno Espírito Santo’s side just announced the signing of Liverpool youngster Ki-Jana Hoever on Saturday, which could impact their pursuit of Semedo.
Norwich City’s Max Aarons is a surprise feature on Barça’s list, but the Canaries have so far rejected two separate loan offers. What is certain however is that Semedo will all but be replaced, as his three-year stint with the Blaugrana arrives at its conclusion.
Barcelona begin their La Liga season on 27 September, when they welcome Villarreal to Camp Nou. Ronald Koeman’s side then travel across to Galicia three days later, as they face Celta Vigo on 30 September.
Semedo joined Barcelona on a five-year deal from Benfica in 2017, winning the double in his first season at Camp Nou. Although he made 42 appearances last season – the sixth-most in the squad – it looks like his time in Catalunya is reaching its end.
Barcelona are in the search for a new right-back and have already identified a number of targets to replace Semedo.
Sergiño Dest of Ajax is one of the names in the mix, but Barcelona face stern competition from Bayern Munich to sign the American full-back. Eric García is another potential option to bolster their backline, with his Manchester City contract expiring next summer.
