Barcelona name their price tag for the world’s best player
The world is in awe as the rumours linking Lionel Messi with a move out of Barcelona continue to grow stronger and ESPN has reported that the board of the club has even held a meeting regarding the future of the player.
Ronald Koeman had also held a meeting with Lionel Messi shortly after being appointed as the manager of the club. Koeman’s agenda for the meeting was to convince the player to see out his contract that expires in the summer of 2021, however, it is reported that Messi was furious during the meeting and stated that he sees himself more outside of the club rather than being with the club.
According to the Mirror, the board of the club led by Josep Maria Bartomeu has no plans of letting Messi this summer and the club will ensure that the player does not leave. Although the Argentine forward has requested to be transferred, the board reminded the player that he has a release clause that is rumoured to be more than 700 million euros.
So will Leo Messi leave the Camp Nou?
The chances of seeing Messi make a dramatic exit this summer seem to be extremely slim given his release clause. There is no club that would be ready to pay his 700 million euros release clause as a majority of football clubs around Europe continue to struggle with financial issues due to COVID-19.
Financially stable clubs such as Manchester United have been bargaining with their transfer targets and are willing to pay amounts in installments. Such is the situation with most clubs. Even the richest club like Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain will not be able to pay 700 million euros.
Leo Messi will stay until the summer of 2021 when his contract expires. Ronald Koeman even stated-
“I don’t know if I have to convince Messi. For my part, I would love to work with Messi. He has a contract. He has one year left. He is a Barcelona player”- Ronald Koeman on Leo Messi
