Barcelona cannot believe their eyes as Messi is set to leave
Lionel Messi of Barcelona had made the headlines of almost every single newspaper in the world after rumours broke out that the Argentine forward has considered leaving Barca in the summer of 2021 when his current contract expires.
However, this was not the case until a few months ago as the club was planning to offer their best footballer ever a contract extension until 2023 along with an increment in his hefty salary.
The sudden change of Messi’s decision to continue at Barca until 2023 is still not known, however, the captain of the club has openly expressed his dissent towards the club on social media this season on numerous occassions.
Messi had taken to social media earlier in the season to fire back at club director, Eric Abidal after the former player criticised the squad’s performance.
The Argentine forward was also one of the first to post on social media regarding the false accusations that the players were not accepting a reduction in the salary during the lockdown period because of COVID-19
On an interview with Mundo Deportivo, for the very first time, the captain spoke poorly of his club by stating that the current squad does not have what it takes to win the Champions League and signings such as _Neymar_ and Lautaro Martinez is what the club needs to find their old winning ways once again.
It seems like Messi has finally unleashed all his feelings that he held back against the club for several years and the departure of Arthur Melo and the signing of Miralem Pjanic may have been the final blow to the forward’s sentiments and attachments towards the club.
Reports claim that Messi has already decided his new club
Diaro GOL reports that the Barcelona man has agreed to sign with his former boyhood club Newell’s Old Boys. Leo Messi had spent 6 years at the Argentine club which was his youth club at that time before he signed for the Blaugrana. The Argentina national team captain has never turned down the opportunity to speak highly about his youth club and on many occasions has stated that he would return someday to Newell’s Old Boys.
If Lionel Messi is set to leave in the summer of 2021, then the board must keep a lookout for a potential replacement such as Paulo Dybala, Raheem Sterling or Jadon Sancho. Do you believe Messi will abandon the club that gave him everything when they need him at the most during this state of crisis?
