Barcelona directors are reportedly meeting with Lautaro Martinez’s agent in Milan during the club’s Champions League clash with Inter on Tuesday.
Barcelona are planning to get the Argentine striker as the long-term replacement for ageing Luis Suarez, who celebrates his 33rd birthday on the 24th of January.
According to Marca, Lautaro’s agents Rolando Zarate and Beto Yague are meeting with Barcelona directors during the club’s visit to Milan to finalize the Argentina international’s future.
Inter’s coach, Antonio Conte, is not too keen on letting his ace leave the Italian club next year as Lautaro has proved himself to be a valuable asset for the Milan side, having scored 13 goals in 20 appearances this season. The 22-year-old’s current dominance has seen his market value increase drastically throughout the season with many clubs looking to secure the youngster even with his release clause set at €111 million.
Internazionale are looking to extend the player’s current contract that expires in 2023, mainly to raise his buyout clause as many European giants find the current release clause [€111m] as a steal for the talented forward.
Barca will find it difficult to convince the Serie A side with competition coming from both Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who are in search of a replacement for Sergio Aguero, and Zidane’s Real Madrid, who according to Diario Gol are favorites to secure the Argentine with the player believed to want Real Madrid as his next destination as he wishes to play under Zinedine Zidane.
