Barcelona makes an official offer for Brazilian midfielder but are likely to face a rare complication due to the player’s split ownership.
Globo Esporte reports that Barcelona have been tracking Palmeras midfielder, Matheus Fernandes, since 2017 and are now preparing a €6 million ($ 27 million) bid for the 21-year-old. Additional bonuses based on the Brazilian’s goals are also to be included in the offer.
The ownership of Fernandes is said to be complicating the deal as the rights to the midfielder is shared between Palmeiras (75%) and his former club Botagofo (25%). As a result, they must also negotiate with Botagofo, in order to finalize a deal for the youngster.
The Brazilian had an impressive career at Botafogo, making 76 appearances in 2 years, but has struggled to get minutes at Palmeiras since his arrival in 2018. He only managed to make an appearance in 11 matches out of the 48 club fixtures.
Barca are believed to use this as a tool to persuade Fernandes to join the Catalans. The report also suggests that the Sao Paulo based club are likely to be forced to make this transfer as a result of their financial struggles this season.
The center midfielder is unlikely to be an instant starter at Camp Nou but could look for playing minutes with the B squad or a loan move elsewhere to continue developing for the future as the Spanish giants are known for their positive relationship with Brazilian talents in the past.
