Barcelona have announced the signing of Palmeiras’s Matheus Fernandes.
The Brazilian will join Barcelona on July 1.
Barcelona have paid €7m and €3m will be paid in add-ons. The 21-year-old’s contract lasts until 2025 and his release clause is set at €300m.
Matheus Fernandes is a central midfielder. However, his solid defensive skills allow him to play as a defensive midfielder, which means that Fernandes will likely become a future Arturo Vidal’s or Sergio Busquets’s replacement.
Fernandes made 87 appearances for Palmeiras in three years. He featured as a central midfielder in 47 games and played 19 times as a defensive midfielder.
The Catalan club reportedly scouted Fernandes for two years.
