- The Frenchman has suffered a thigh injury in Athletic clash.
- It should take him five weeks to recover.
- Ousmane injured the same thigh back March.
The statement on FC Barcelona’s official website confirms that Ousmane Dembele has sustained an injury and is set to miss 5 weeks of action.
The Barca medical team have diagnosed the Frenchman with a serious muscular injury: ‘fibrillar break in the femoral biceps of the left thigh’.
In fact, BT Media speculated that Ousmane suffered a thing injury already on Sunday. Following his impressive performances in both pre-season matches against Napoli, it was a surprise to see Ousmane Dembelebarely creating anything on the pitch against Athletic Bilbao.
However, already during the clash, the Frenchman could be seen touching his left hamstring. In case you forget, Ousmane picked up a left hamstring injury earlier this season, more specifically, in the Rayo Vallecano match back in March. As a result, the Frenchman missed four league games and was barely used in the Champions League tie against Manchester United.
What’s more, the forward has torn the biceps femoris in his left thigh four times, and in his right thigh one time since his arrival at Barca. Only last season, the winger missed 13 games through injury, not talking about all the times he had been left of the bench because of his fitness.
Earlier reports, however, claim that the France international is determined to improve in terms of his fitness and has even started training ahead of everyone else this summer. Moreover, the club has reportedly hired a personal chef to take care of Dembele’s diet. Nonetheless, it seems that the old problems are back.
With Leo Messi and Luis Suarez both out and Coutinho off to Bayern losing Dembele at the start of the season is nothing short of a nightmare for Ernesto Valverde.
