The Chelsea fan brands team is back again reporting on yet another one of Chelsea’s prospects that Barcelona has decided to pick up on. As if taking some of our finest defenders wasn’t enough, they want more.
The Catalans have made it known that they would like Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta to choose their team as they come to the end of their contract. If that’s not enough, they have now registered their interest in Antonio Rudiger too. Whilst Chelsea openly wants to keep the German, there’s a high possibility that he walks at the end of the season.
The Blues are currently prohibited from making any signings in the summer, but that could all change. Clubs would need to take advantage of this opportunity whilst a fierce rival’s power is rendered disabled. Barcelona has been ahead of the curve. They are interested in Chelsea target and Leeds forward Raphinha and Riyad Mahrez.
Barcelona is looking for their perfect Ousmane Dembele replacement, and it will come at Chelsea’s expense. Whilst the Frenchman was tipped to join Chelsea this summer. The Catalans needed to be one step ahead to replace him. The Blues had their £40m bid rejected by Leeds for their star boy Raphinha. If they knew what they know now, maybe a larger offer would have been made back then.
Following the news of Chelsea’s original bid being rejected, Barcelona also had theirs pushed back too. Their initial bid was at a price of around £29.6m. They have now raised their offer to £42m. It’s quite coincidental that they are going after similar targets to the Champions of Europe. I guess we have the ultimate blueprint for European success.
Prior to Roman Abramovich’s sanctioning, Marina Granovskaia and her team had been cooking up an offer for Mahrez. It does not come as a shock, seeing as the Algerian’s contract is set to run out in 2023. It’s now or never for Manchester City to accept an offer unless they are willing to give him a new contract. This is where Barcelona steps in. Although Raphinha is their first choice, they are also happy to take Mahrez off of Pep Guardiola’s hands.
The Algerian could be available this summer for around £33.2m. In my humble opinion, I believe that is an absolute steal — a four-time Premier League Champion, proven to be a dangerous and decisive asset to the Cityzens. Bring him to the Bridge, do whatever it takes! With rumors of Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku wanting to leave, we will need a strong goal-scoring to replace them.
Plus, I’d love to just get one over Barcelona. They’re fighting to take our best assets so let’s not allow them to take our transfer prospects too.
